I am fifteen and 5′5′ weighing in at 153 lbs. My dad is (age=?) 5′9′ and 330lbs. My mom is (age=?) and 5′3′ and 180 pounds. My brother is 8 and 110 pounds he is 4′8′.
I would like to lose weight and get them healthier in the process. They are addicted to fried foods and are WAYYY off on their portions. What exercise can I get them to do without fighting them? How do I make them realize that they are extremely unhealthy?
I want them to live to see me graduate, and this is not the right track. I used to weigh 161 pounds but I have been working to lose it. I would like to get them involved.
This is my thing right here. I have a daughter that weighs too much because of medication that she was put on at a young age and I am working with her right now. It sounds like I know exactly what can cure this issue. The “sample” menu that you stated is full of fat, carbs, and starch. All of which are not really bad for you in moderation. But when that’s all you eat then it has no choice but to go straight to your waist line and bottom. If you are able to go to the grocery store with them you can throw in suggestions as you shop. “Mom can we get some salad for dinner?” or “oh wow, an apple really sounds good!”. You obviously know your way around the computer so you can pull up the information on the internet and see if they will listen to you as you read to them that obesity can cause several health issues such as asthma, blood circulation issues and can also cause death. Try to explain to them that you want to live and eat healthier than you have been so you may have a chance to live a longer, happier life. My ideal menu would be similar to this with 3 meals a day and 2 small snacks through the day. You will feel like you are eating all the time, but it is foods that are healthier for you and you will very quickly see a big improvement in the way you look, feel and even carry yourself. Kinda like a total makeover with a slow weight loss process. Losing more than 3 pounds a week is not healthy. Anything more than that you will be losing muscle mass which is very unhealthy! Breakfast: yougurt of your choice, small piece of fruit, 1 slice of toast and glass of fruit juice
mid-morning snack : simple - a piece of fruit (fresh is better for you)
lunch : small salad to start, small portion of lean meat (chicken or fish - baked not fried) NO PASTA OR POTATOES vegetable (green beans, peas or carrots) and fruit for dessert
snack: fresh fruit and glass of low fat milk
dinner: grilled chicken salad or vegetable salad (can be large if you choose) vegetable and fruit with glass of low fat milk and yogurt for dessert.
It seems like a lot of food doesn’t it? You will eat and get full! You will NOT feel like you are starving, I swear. It is healthy and very good for you to not be too heavy! Try this kind of menu for 2 months together and see if everyone doesn’t start to lose about 10 pounds month without lots of exercise. Exercising will only help to speed up the process and help to increase metabolism which is the rate that your body breaks down food so you can burn off the calories that you take in.
www.dietfree.com might help to answer any other questions that you may have. I eat like this and I have never been over 155lbs even after having 3 kids and I feel great!

I am going under the same problem too! Well, the problem with my family is that they do kind of the same but also if they have no time, we order fast food. This is not good, not good at all. What I would do is tell my parents that the family is unhealthy and out of shape and it would do good for all of you to lose weight. They will feel more energized and live longer. Eventually, the doctors will tell your family you need to do something before it’s too late, so it’s better to start now. Have them learn about portions and healthy foods vs. unhealthy foods. First, you need to educate yourself on this topic and spread what you learned. A good website for this would be http://www.mypyramid.gov
As for exercise, start easy. It’s hard to start right away with 2 hours of exercise a day. How about having them do what they love? Some of you might want to try a yoga class. Others might be interested in the gym and sports. How did you lose weight from 166 to 153 (I’m interested!)? Maybe try to share this with your family. Talk to your doctor for help
………….
First of all, I commend you on taking the initiative on this issue.
As for your family, my suggestion is that you set the example and show how happy you are when you healthy. There really is no diet plan that I can give you. In my opinion, you know your family best and you have to come up when it comes to food. Perhaps you can offer to cook and deliberately make the portions smaller. That is one way you can take control on how much you eat
For exercising, I suggest you start taking small steps. Start walking more instead of driving to places. Take the stairs, not the elevators. Park farther away when you go to stores. Then maybe you can go into more conventional exercises. Walk around the track for an hour a day. Take up swimming. Cardio is a must for them to get them on the right track.
And as for talking to your family, I find that inevitable. It’s tough to talk about such a sensitive subject but I feel it would only hurt them more if you don’t talk to them.

Have a talk with ur family and ask them if u could go through ur frig/pantry and throw out any unhealthy foods. then go shopping. buy only healthy foods. next step is try to tell them to cut down on salt. i think theres this seasoning or something that u can use and its just like salt but its not so use that instead of salt. also when u have a talk with them try to make a fitness chart. u know. get creative. i think this might help. oh and also maybe get everyone together and maybe go for a walk in ur neighborhood or somehting.
