Herend Figurines
Since 1826, Herend has been a name you can trust for the finest hand-painted porcelain dinnerware and figurines. Each individual work of art created by highly trained master craftspeople. Much like fine Mottahedeh dinnerware, each piece is a treasure for the connoisseur and can be used for enjoyment as well as artistic appreciation.
Their success began with Queen Victoria’s order of a very large table for Windsor Castle. It was decorated with a colorful, Chinese-inspired design of flowers and butterflies, and it has since become famous and quite popular as Herend’s “Queen Victoria” pattern. Many aristocrats of the time followed the Queen’s example, and Herend continued to prosper. Their legacy was introduced to the United States in 1853 at the New York Exhibition of Industrial Arts. Today, as then, Herend remains dedicated to its fundamental principles of keeping the old traditions, while honoring the spirit of the present.
Collectors of fine china will also know the name of Josiah Spode. He perfected production of under-glaze blue printing on earthenware from hand-engraved copper plates. In the late 18th century he produced the single most significant development in the history of the ceramic industry - the perfection of the formula for Fine Bone China, leading the way for the whole industry.
