How do you know if you are choosing the right career?

I have been struggling for years trying to decide between a few careers but I am so indecisive and just can’t figure out what I should really be doing. How do you know for sure?

You don’t really. You decide what kind of life you want to have in the future, what options you want open to you, how many hours you think you will be comfortable working as you get older, whether you’re expecting to have kids in the future etc. Then you pick one to suit your needs and build on that.

That’s assuming you like the position :-)

There is no absolute way of telling. Thats why its unwise to put all your eggs in one basket so-to-speak.
People who plan their whole life around one set path are almost assuring downfall.

In this world you have to be ready to adapt.

Hardly anyone I know is at a job that they went to school for. That does NOT mean don’t go to school, just that the degree you get might help you get a job that you don’t expect at all.

Most oportunity happens last minute. So making rigid career plans is kinda foolish in my opinion but some people’s personality types require that foundation upon which they can build other plans. There are too many variables in life for me to even consider that though.

Ideally you’ll want to make your living doing something you can stand enough to warrant missing out on the time you are spending earning money and make enough money doing so that you can support yourself and get things you want as well.

You have to spend time to make money. That is the saddest situation in life I think. Time is much more valuable than money in my mind.
